Showcase Session: The Minneapolis Story
Among American cities, Minneapolis, Minnesota, is recognized as a leader for its broadband-wireless planning and implementation model. Minneapolis was the first major US city to include a 10-year anchor tenancy in its public-private agreement with its service provider, US Internet, helping to ensure long-term sustainability. The model support applications for police, fire, and land management, and establishes a first-ever digital-inclusion fund to provide the tools and skills residents need to access the Web. James Farstad, the city's wireless project leader, joins us live from Minneapolis, where a 24-hour implementation of Wi-Fi equipment on city street lights is under way. Also featured: Prerecorded interviews with key project stakeholders, including Deputy Chief Information Officer Bill Beck and US Internet President Joe Caldwell. - James Farstad, President, rClient
