4.Haltom (TX) Approves Bonds for Wireless Network
City officials on June 25, 2007 approved a plan to set up a citywide wireless Internet network by 2008 to serve businesses and residents who are limited to slower dial-up services. If the city council gives the go-ahead, the panel would issue $4 million in bonds at a later meeting to finance the project's construction. The city plans to pay the bonds with money from subscriptions to the Wi-Fi network and money saved through energy conservation. If the city falls short in a given period, Chevron will make up the difference. A monthly subscription would probably cost $20 to $25.
