1.Orange County (CA) Issues Broadband Analyst RFP
The County of Orange is considering the implementation of a metropolitan regional broadband wireless (WiFi/WiMAX) network that will cover the territory of all of the participating entities within the County. Proposals are sought from firms with demonstrated experience in assessing the cost/benefit of and determining the most appropriate course of action for the implementation and operation of a metropolitan class wireless network. Governance and oversight of the network owner and network service providers would be provided by the County of Orange possibly via the establishment of a joint Orange County task force with representatives from city and county government, as well as local businesses and educational institutions. Proposals are due July 31, 2007 and a bidders conference is July 10, 2007.

Bidders may bid one or both business models, a public-private partnership (build, own and operate a wired and wireless network) or an alternative business model which also meets the needs of the city. 4.USDA $8.9 Million for Broadband Grants to Localities Announced
Deputy Agriculture Secretary Chuck Connor announced the availability of $8.9 million in grants for communities without broadband service to provide residential service and connect facilities such as police and fire stations, health care, libraries and schools.
