A 20 sq. mi. network is possible if the pilot is successful. On February 5, 2008, the Kississimee, FL Commissioners approved a Mesh Network pilot with HP/Cisco in the amount of $105,336. The City approved an interlocal agreement in May of 2006 to establish a MESH Wireless Network cooperatively owned and managed by the City, Kissimmee Utility Authority and Toho Water Authority. The pilot project utilizing Motorola's MEA and Duo WiFi equipment was installed in the two square mile CRA District. The City will test the following applications: - Traffic light management
- Video streaming
- Connectivity to Network applications from vehicles
If the pilot is successful, the three entities agree to pay $316,009.00 (each agency paying $105,336.34). The existing pilot area (CRA) will continue to function on the WiFi Duo product to provide free internet access to residents and businesses until such time that the equipment is replaced with the Cisco equipment. If all three agencies agree to implement the MESH throughout the remaining 20 square mile City area, HP & Cisco have agreed to pricing that will allow the City to recoup the initial investment made in the Motorola equipment. • More
