Expert Zones

Cities, communities and regions deploy broadband-wireless networks for a broad range of local needs, each of which present project leaders with its own set of opportunities and challenges. The Expert Zones at W2i.com provide a platform for industry thought leaders and local authorities to share best practices, weigh in on their experiences through blogs and white papers, and collectively move toward shared success in the sustainable implementation of wireless infrastructure, applications and services. Each Zone is fed by an ongoing Roundtable series at the W2i Digital Cities Convention.

Wireless Video and Analytics Zone
• How are state and local governments deploying video surveillance systems to deter and detect crime?

Service Providers and Government Zone
• What are the evolving roles, profiles and requirements of service providers and systems integrators in the broadband-wireless best-practices discussion

Mobile Workforce Productivity Zone
• How are state and local governments using wireless to cut costs, increase efficiency and enhance revenue flows?

Public Safety and Interoperability Zone
• The topic of Interoperability of public-safety networks raises many issues: What federal and state policy requirements are going to emerge? What will be the impact of the 700 MHz public-safety spectrum auction? Who will own and operate networks? This inaugural session will provide an early view onto emerging policy requirements for interoperable public-safety networks, allowing participants to develop insightful responses and solutions.

Utilities and Meter Reading Zone
• Local government are deploying their own Wi-Fi networks to enable reading of utility meters to cut costs and provide more accurate systems monitoring — often as a launch pad for the deployment of additional government applications later on

Transportation and Traffic Management Zone
• Wireless is increasingly enabling traffic-management solutions such as congestion charging while also providing broadband connectivity to commuters.

Countywide Applications Zone
• County governments are turning to wireless to meet application and service needs for both urban and rural populations and terrains.
