The municipality is now expanding its Wi-Fi system at a cost of R250,000, creating 150 hotspots in business districts, main tourist areas, black-owned businesses in informal settlements, and on major routes.

Taipei Plans VoIP Over Citywide Network
The city of Taipei is building a citywide VoIP network that will allow users to make calls on internet-enabled mobile phones. The Taipei Easy Call project will use the city's WiFly citywide Wi-Fi network to connect the calls. 200,000 to be making calls by the end of the year.

Microwave Satellite's NuVisions operation has already fitted several buildings in the city with its gigabit Ethernet, which is then utilized to create a "Wi-Fi cloud" around each building. Subscribers to NuVisions' in-building broadband service " at $24.95 a month " can then use the company's Wi-Fi service without charge at any of NuVision's hot zones in the city.
