Sizing up the Wi-Fi Opportunity for India
Chennai, Mumbai, Ban_ga_lore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh are already contemplating going wireless. Intel is reportedly in talks with the Karnataka government for a citywide wireless umbrella over Bangalore. It has also launched a pilot with the Uttaran_chal government on the lines of Pune's wireless project.

Citizens of and visitors to Paris will be offered free internet access over Wi-Fi networks, the city administration said this week. Street furniture will be improved to make laptop users more comfortable and the plan is to have 400 hotspots and city-wide coverage by the end of next year.

Nokia teamed up Thursday with WiFi Salon to offer free Wi-Fi access at 10 New York City parks. The free Wi-Fi connections will be available in Battery Park, Washington Square Park, Riverside Park, Union Square, and eight locations in Central Park in Manhattan; Prospect Park in Brooklyn; Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens; and Orchard Beach, Van Cortlandt Park, and Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.

Taipei's Municipal Wi-Fi Network Is World's Largest
JiWire, the Wi-Fi hotspot authority, announced that its independent research and field audit of Taipei's municipal Wi-Fi network showed it to be the largest in the world, covering the greatest area and serving the largest population. Taipei's 134-square-kilometer downtown area, home to nearly 90% of the city's 2.6 million people, is covered in a "blanket of Wi-Fi."
