South African Town Continues Wi-Fi Expansion
Knysna became the first fully WiFi-enabled town in South Africa in September when it introduced cutting-edge wireless technology, allowing the
municipality to provide improved and cheaper communication services. The municipality is now expanding its Wi-Fi system at a cost of R250,000,
creating 150 hotspots in business districts, main tourist areas, black-owned businesses in informal settlements, and on major routes.

Taipei Plans VoIP Over Citywide Network
The city of Taipei is building a citywide VoIP network that will allow users to make calls on internet-enabled mobile phones. The Taipei Easy Call project will use the city's WiFly citywide Wi-Fi network to connect the calls. 200,000 to be making calls by the end of the year.

The Cloud Offers Unlimited Wi-Fi for £11.99
Wireless Internet network operator The Cloud, has launched a service giving Web users access to unlimited broadband Wi-Fi for £11.99 a month.
The 'Ultra WiFi' service gives subscribers access to Wi-Fi across The Cloud's 7,000 UK hotspots and 9 city centre hotzones.

Wi-Fi Cloud of Hot Zones Planned for NYC
Microwave Satellite's NuVisions operation has already fitted several buildings in the city with its gigabit Ethernet, which is then utilized to create a "Wi-Fi cloud" around each building. Subscribers to NuVisions' in-building broadband service " at $24.95 a month " can then use the company's Wi-Fi service without charge at any of NuVision's hot zones in the city.

Sizing up the Wi-Fi Opportunity for India
Chennai, Mumbai, Ban_ga_lore, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Chandigarh are already contemplating going wireless. Intel is reportedly in talks with the Karnataka government for a citywide wireless umbrella over Bangalore. It has also launched a pilot with the Uttaran_chal government on the lines of Pune's wireless project.

Citizens of and visitors to Paris will be offered free internet access over Wi-Fi networks, the city administration said this week. Street furniture will be improved to make laptop users more comfortable and the plan is to have 400 hotspots and city-wide coverage by the end of next year.

Nokia teamed up Thursday with WiFi Salon to offer free Wi-Fi access at 10 New York City parks. The free Wi-Fi connections will be available in Battery Park, Washington Square Park, Riverside Park, Union Square, and eight locations in Central Park in Manhattan; Prospect Park in Brooklyn; Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens; and Orchard Beach, Van Cortlandt Park, and Pelham Bay Park in the Bronx.
