Riverside (CA) CIO Assesses Citywide Wi-Fi Model with AT&T
File type:mp3
May 13, 2008 - What is the core value proposition of broadband wireless for cities? How do we do appropriate risk assessment for the technology, business models and time to completion? At the W2i Digital Cities Joint State Briefing in Riverside, California, city CIO Steve Reneker reviewed the city's public-private partnership with AT&T to provide coverage across 55 square miles, including a free service at 512 Kbps. "We did not want to compete against our carriers that have spent millions of dollars in infrastructure here," Reneker said. "We learned from Philadelphia that's not the good business model."
