06/20/2006Letter from the Editor
The W2i Digital Cities Convention in Taipei, Taiwan, is just a week away, and the number of registrants for this globally significant event has exceeded expectations.
The timing couldn't be better. Earlier this spring, the Taipei City Government launched its WiFly network, the largest citywide Wi-Fi service in the world. Earlier this June, the Intelligent Communities Forum (ICF) chose Taipei from a field of seven competitors as its "smartest city."
The W2i Team met Deputy Mayor Pu-tsung King and delegation at the ICF awards ceremony in New York; they are looking forward to greeting more than 300 participants -- including the CIOs of Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Portland -- at the Welcome Party on June 28. The two-day program is packed with expert panels, applications discussions, case studies, workshops, industry keynotes, a technology showcase, and a gala dinner hosted by Taipei Mayor Ma Ying-jeou.
The Awards Jury for the W2i Wireless Communities Best Practices Awards accepts nominations [form] through the end of June. Don't hesitate to nominate a local gocvernment today. Winners will be announced at the Digital Cities Convention in Philadelphia (Oct. 31-Nov. 2).
Sincerely,
Peter Orne Editorial Director
